It has been a fun and exciting week for me. First, Ed and I decided to take two days off to go Savannah, Georgia since we had never been before. It is a 2-1/2 hour trip from our house. We walked around, took a trolley tour and did all the touristy things. The weather was in the upper 80’s, but not too hot to enjoy the city.

Then on the second day, we headed to Tybee Island, GA to check it out. We rode around the island to get a feel for it, walked on the beach, and ate lunch there before heading home.

Both Ed and I agreed that taking short trips like this are good for us. They give us a break to take the time to enjoy life while also seeing new places. I always find I come home inspired with new ideas which in my mind is always a good thing. :-)

Mandy and Matt

When we got home, we got a phone call from our younger daughter, Mandy and her boyfriend, Matt. He proposed and she said yes! They are perfect for each other and we couldn’t be happier. So helping them plan their wedding in Virginia will begin as the mid November date will be here before we know it.

Now onto the links I found this week.

I watched this $3,200,000 home being built as it is near me on the lake I live on. It is interesting to see the inside now that is is done. Not sure I like the mostly grey and black interior decor though.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe… After looking at many of the homes in this architect’s portfolio I had a hard time choosing which home to link to. I like this one because of the location. Amazing! Don’t miss browsing through the rest of the site for more for inspiration. There are sections for new homes, renovations, interior design and even an image gallery of rooms by category.

  1. Congratulations to your family on your daughter’s upcoming wedding. So fun to celebrate with family and friends. Wear comfortable shoes and dance the night away. Also, I’m excited for you to have your sister moving closer to you. My sister is 1.5 hours away, and though that’s not far, I wish she lived closer. I agree with everyone about the lake house. I visualize a lake home as being warm and inviting. When my husband and I remodeled our home, I told him no grey. The color grey affects me. I need warmth in my home. Will I use it as an accent? Sure, if it works for me, but not my entire house! I started following NewHappyCo on IG. Thanks!

  2. Congratulations to your daughter and fiancé on their upcoming wedding. You will have so much fun helping them plan for the perfect day. I was not at all impressed with the large house. It is my personal opinion that having money does not guarantee having style or taste.

Hi Nancy – Thanks. We are very excited for Mandy and Matt and wedding planning. I agree with you 100% about having money doesn’t guarantee style or taste. In the case of the drab black and white interior in the lake house, I bet the builder decorated it. Might be good at building, but they should have hired a decorator to do the interior. I think it is going to hurt the sale of the house. Hope all is going well for you.

  3. Congratulations to M&M and all ya’ll.

Hi Gail – We are very excited for Mandy and Matt. For wedding favors or centerpieces they are going to have lots of bags of M&M’s. :-).

  4. Diane,

How exciting for your daughter and entire family. Congrats on the engagement❤️

I LOVE your home. Honestly I gave up after a few pics with that 3million plus house you posted. Not warm and welcoming. Someone will love it🤨

We love Savannah and cannot wait to go back and spend more time on Tybee Island. When we dropped our youngest off at college in 2012 we proceeded to drive from Iowa to the south with Savannah on the list. Loved that area and of course Biltmore Estate.

We love to take short couple day getaways. Looking forward to more this year.

Hi June – Thanks. Someone will buy the 3 million dollar home, but I bet they redo the inside. The location and exterior of the house is very nice, not sure where they came up with the drab and not welcoming interior. What a fun trip to take from Iowa to SC. Savannah and the all the low country of SC/Georgia are nice places to visit. Asheville is one of my favorite places. We went there this fall on a short trip where we just went on a whim and had a great time seeing the fall foliage and stopping at farm stands to get apples and other fall goodies. Enjoy your getaways.

  5. Congratulations on your daughter’s engagement! What fun for you to help them plan their wedding! I am definitely tired of all the grey being used in modern design, so drab. I think it’s going to look dated pretty soon. I’m definitely ready for strawberry pie – I’ve never tried the whipped cream pie but now may be the time!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Linda – Thanks – we are very excited for them. :-) The strawberry pie made with the whipped cream is a family favorite. If you like strawberries and cream, you will love it. It is delicious.

    PS

I loved the outside of that house on your lake, and the location and views and front door and so much of its design – wow wow wow…..but I was sorely disappointed by the over-use of the color grey. Ugh. Every single room? Really? And I really esp. don’t care for the blue grey used in much of it. I like a warm or neutral grey here and there, I do. It’s a comfortable color. I wish they’d have gone more of a neutral on the flooring.

But wow this house is amazing. I am just not a huge fan of a cool grey and never will be. But would I live there? You betchya. I’d bring paint.

    : – )

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Michele – Yes – same here, if that big house was mine I would be bringing lots of paint and new flooring. The interior is such a disappointment.

  7. Michele M. says:

Oh you live just a couple hours from Savannah? How wonderful – and you both got to visit there for the first time. I absolutely love that city. Go back around Halloween and take the ghost walking tour. It’s fun.

Best wishes to your daughter’s betrothal. What a fun thing the wedding planning will be! (And stressful too.)

Great Scoutings this week, Diane. Thank you.

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Hi Michele – Thanks :-) I did see a pamphlet for the Ghost Tours. I can imagine going on one would be fun.

  8. Congrats on the happy news of your daughter’s engagement! What a great summer you will have leading up to the big date.
I agree with you on the big home newly built on your lake. You need to get in there and add you special decorating flair to make it a cozier happy place!

    1. Diane Henkler says:

Thanks Deanna – The planning has started already – venue, caterer…… :-). I enjoyed watching the progress of the lake home being built and never imagined that the interior would be so drab. I think the builder must have got a deal on grey and black furnishings. When I opened up the Realtor.com to see it, I thought every room looked like the garage. I couldn’t believe it – such a disappointment.
