Style Scouting: Vol. 166

Halloween is on Tuesday. Do you go all out and decorate the exterior of your house?

Back in our Pennsylvania neighborhood, there were many years when we saw 80 or more trick-or-treaters. I used to enjoy decorating our front entrance with pumpkins, pots of mums, a Jack-O-Lantern or two, and a few ghosts.

Since moving to South Carolina, we don’t get any trick-or-treaters, not a single one. So Halloween decor has fallen off my to-do list. If I did decorate for Halloween, I would do it like Chris & Julia did in the above photo. Classic, cute and not scary. :-) Do you get many trick-or-treaters coming to your house?

Posts You May Have Missed This Week

Decorating

This home renovation of a non-historic home is so well done.

Checking out the inside and outside of this house should be done on the largest screen you have.

This house on Illinois Street.

DIY

Now this is the SMARTEST painting idea for a paint roller I have ever seen!!!!

A cute Christmas classic with a trendy twist.

I miss having a banquette in my kitchen. This one is so cozy.

Food

I never would have thought to use a cast iron pan to make this classic fall dessert.

This is a cute and super easy way to make dessert for Halloween.

Ed wants me to make this one night for dinner.

These dinner rolls look so good that I want to take a bite out of the photo.

Reading & Watching

All the Light We Cannot See, one of my favorite books, makes its debut on Netflix on November 2nd. You still have time to read the book. I read it in 24 hours – it was so good. I read that the movie adaptation doesn’t follow the book in places, but I am still excited to watch it.

Just started this book after reading great reviews about it.

Fashion & Beauty

I got this sweater in the color Nutmeg and LOVE it!!! I went down one size since it is oversized. It fits exactly the way I like, a little bit slouchy, but has a shape. It comes in lots of colors. I think I will get a Light Blue one now, since every time I wear the color, people say – “that is such a good color on you“. :-)

Fun & Interesting

Would your dog let you do this to them for Halloween? It’s so clever.

Do you like to decorate the exterior of your home at Christmas with holiday lights, but don’t like the time it takes? Now Walmart is coming to your aid.

Funny – “Target thinks I want to put up my Christmas tree and eat turkey while wearing my Halloween Costume”. :-)

Something to Think About

One reason it’s nice to have siblings.

“Hold your loved ones tight. Take comfort in the place you call home, no matter how humble. Be grateful for the comforts we often take for granted. And always be kind.” Molly In Maine

Oh, thanks so much for linking to my gnomes Diane. They are so fun to make!

  2. Both of the books you mention sound very good… I’ll have to check those out after I finish a couple of others :)

We have lived in our current “older” neighborhood for nine years now, and not one single trick-or-treater. So many of the local churches have parties and festivals, I guess parents would rather be in a controlled environment. We do have some new neighbors with younger children, so maybe this year.

  4. Oops … depending on the weather here in Minnesota we have had up to 200 kiddos on Halloween. I am making the most of it this year as I find myself wondering when we downsize if we will see a lot of kids. They are so fun to see all their excitement🎃

That Eastern Shore home is divine — just the right combination of grand and cozy. And the best real estate photography I’ve seen online. Yes, it deserves a big screen.

Thank you for the mention of All The Light We Cannot See. Looks like a do-not-miss Netflix offering.

Your link to the siblings story reminded me to call my sister. Thank you.

  6. So much great content! My son loves Osso Buco. Let us know if he liked the recipe. I just might have to surprise my son😊. That insane big house although beautiful to me lacked a welcoming feeling. Guess I am too much of a midwest girl. I could keep commenting but would overload your site. You always have the best ideas!
