Now that the first week of September is behind us, did you have a good week getting back to a normal routine?

As I mentioned in a previous post, I love the September back-to-school season and always find a need to go buy school supplies – a new notebook along with pens and pencils always feels exciting as it is one small way to begin a fresh start after a laid-back summer.

When I was a kid in school, I always chose a binder with colorful dividers and tabs that fit my personal style. I loved setting it up every year. This year, I didn’t have a need for a binder, but did buy a new daily planner called The Happy Planner at Michaels craft store to help me keep everything for the blog organized.

For the last few years I have tried online planners/organizing apps. I had such a hard time learning all the bells and whistles and never got the feel for using them. My brain doesn’t do the spreadsheet style interfaces very well that most of the apps like Airtable and others are build on. They make my mind go blank instead of getting focused. Does anybody else have this problem?

So it is back to the old-school printed planner, it works for me, so why try to change what works best, right?

Did you love getting new school supplies every year when you were a kid? What do you like to use to keep your work/life planned or organized?

  1. I have never given up my trusty planner – it is just easier & usually faster for me to write in it. I also feel that it uses my mind which as a retired nurse in her late 70’s knows is vital. I also buy and faithfully use “My To Do List for the Day”.
I loved the primary suite in the Charlottesville home – the window treatments were so nice. I have driven through there many times and it is stunning except if there is snow and you have to drive those hills/mountains.
Never saw a dining table surround a fireplace – that table seats a srious number of people! Imagine doing the cooking.

  2. Thanks for the link to the slip covered chair. I’ve reupholstered but not slipcovered a chair. That’s on my bucket list.
My BFF makes a similar snack but I sent her a link to the one you posted with the variety of crackers/pretzels used.
How fun to have the exact same dorm room as mom had!
It’s always easier for me to use a paper planner than an electronic one. Mine start in January but I do like getting new “school” supplies in September.

Another reader who prefers paper to devices for staying organized and inspired. I enjoyed today’s links. Those VW-inspired bunks caught my eye! Also loved the post on 5 cozy homes. They all look like “old money.” I think one would have to be ambitious and experienced to attempt a recliner slipcover. Daunting! Thanks for sharing these. Happy autumn!

  4. Hi Diane,
I’m going back to my paper planner this year too. So much easier and, for me, more efficient, too!
