Insta-Style: Door Stop

I have an Insta-Style post for you today. I haven’t done one in quite a while.

Fast and easy decorating ideas with lots of style

What’s Insta-Style?   A weekend series of simple projects for which no tutorial is needed.

You may not own the same items I show in the series of posts, but I am hoping that the ideas will inspire you to look at everything around you with new eyes and ask yourself…”what if?” to come up with your own Insta-Style decorating ideas.

Being that it is Memorial Day weekend,  I thought this Insta-Style would be fitting to start the summer off.

If you are like me and like your windows and doors open in the summer months to let in the breeze, you may need a stylish and easy way to keep the doors from slamming shut when a breeze blows through the house.

Creative ideas on how to use glass blocks

My go-to doorstops are brick shaped glass blocks. No DIY needed to use them. You simply buy them, bring them home and place one in front of an open door to keep it from slamming shut.

I like using them since they are clear and go with any style of decor.

They work on tile floors.

As well as on a carpet.

I found a box full of them at my local ReStore many years ago and have been using them as doorstops ever since. You can find them online for around $5.00 – $6.00 a block. Amazon sells them, but the shipping is way too much and they are not Prime eligible. Home Depot sells them for $4.75 a piece.

If you prefer a more colorful alternative, check out this post where I show how I added some decorative style to some bricks to create colorful doorstops: How to Make a Decorative Doorstop

For all my readers in the US, Memorial Day weekend is here. A weekend to remember our Military and the start of the summer season :-) I hope you have a beautiful weekend.

I love the glass door stops since it really matches the design of your home! Have you thought of granite though?

  2. Are you aware of how many ads of chip and Joanna gains there are on your post? I counted 8 separate ads in your opening paragraphs today. Very distracting. Especially since we see the Gaines are leaving all over Facebook. Love your blogs.

Hi Nini – Thanks for telling me. I just checked. When I opened up my page, I didn’t get 8 of Chip and Joanna, but 8 Samsung phones. I think, but am not sure that a takeover must be happening. It could be something special for the Memorial Day weekend. I am not sure, but I will look into it and find out. Sorry they distracted you.

  3. Great idea Diane. Looks like a giant ice cube that won’t melt. Vikki in VA

  4. Ahh yes, I do like this glass block! I will have to get one for my front door which is always blowing shut. Thanks for the suggestion! Have a great holiday weekend, & be sure to have some fun with that “new toy” you bought! (Looking forward to that bathroom reveal.)

Nice! I love the glass brick idea! Going to order one, maybe two from Home Depot.

  6. Fabulous idea and a great look! I will keep my eye out for a few. Hopefully, Lowe’s or Menards has them. No Home Depot in my area. :(
