Have You Tried Soy Curls Yet?
This week’s WFPB food post is all about my “new-to-me” favorite food that even my husband likes. Have you ever had soy curls?
If you are trying to eat a vegan or whole, plant-based foods, you know that plant-based protein can be found in soy products like tofu and tempeh.
I am not a fan of either of these, which made me think I just didn’t like soy.
Well, I was wrong!!!
Since starting on my WFPB journey I have learned so much about all foods plant-based, how to cook them, where to buy, what is the best, etc.
I am always on the lookout for easy, uncomplicated recipes to try and recently came upon a recipe that used soy curls.
What? Soy Curls, I never heard of them. I am just a newbie to the soy curl revolution as they have been a thing for awhile.

Soy Curls can be used to make main dishes, soups, salads, bowls, wraps and more. They add a meaty flavor and texture to whatever you add them to.
Monkey and Me – Soy Curl Fajitas
I first came upon Butler Soy Curls on the WFPB blog, Monkey and Me Kitchen Adventures.
Both Ed and I loved this recipe and since the first time I made it, I have found and made a few recipes using them.
I am sharing the links in this post to each, so if you have not already tried soy curls in a recipe – you can now. I know you are going to like them.
So You May Be Asking – What Exactly Are Soy Curls?
First off they are not fake meat. They are a delicious and versatile plant-based alternative to meat or chicken depending on how you add flavor to them with your favorite seasonings from sauces, marinades, herbs and spices.
They also can be cooked in a number of ways – stove top, in the oven, air fryer or on the grill.

What Are Soy Curls Made Of?
Soy curls are made using only one ingredient – whole-non GMO soy beans that are grown and made in the USA.
They taste like chicken! They are not like TVP (textured vegetable protein), which is made by pressure-cooking and drying defatted soybean flour.
They are made from the whole bean and keep all their fiber and protein.
After doing some research, I also found out that they are processed without chemicals and packaged with no additives or preservatives.
How to Use Soy Curls?
They come dehydrated in a bag. To use them to whip up a delicious recipe, you soak them in water, broth or a seasoned liquid for 10-minutes. They will plump up and look like strands of chicken.
After soaking them, you squeeze out any excess liquid before cooking.
The bags should be stored in your fridge or freezer until ready to use.

Where Can You Buy Soy Curls?
It is hard to find Soy Curls at the grocery store, maybe someday when more people realize how good they are, they may start stocking them.
Butler Soy Curls™ is the only brand I have used.
Until they become more mainstream, I order them on Amazon. I buy a 3 pack at a time.
