No Sew Ribbon Memo Board

I made this Ribbon Memo Board to place inside my kitchen cabinet. It keeps all the small notes, receipts and more handy, but out of the way. If you have cardboard or dollar store foam core boards and scraps of ribbon, you can make this is about 30 minutes.

How to Make a Ribbon Memo Board

A Ribbon Memo Board will provide you with 2 things: A pop of color to brighten up your space as well as a place to help you organize all those little papers, bills, notes, etc. that pile up on your desk.

supplies needed:

  • Foam Board – I got mine at the dollar store.
  • Ribbons – enough to cover the board. Cut each about 3-inches wider then your board. Use a variety of widths for added interest.  I used a few wired edge ribbons – they work, but they don’t lay as flat as non-wired edge ribbon.
  • Tape
  • Duct or Packaging Tape
  • Straight Edge
  • Mat Knife
  • Scissors
  • 4 – Sticky Back Velcro Dots

1. Cut your board to the desired size.  Determine how you want the ribbons lined up and then set them aside.  I wanted to use a scrap of fabric I had to add more color and pattern to my board. I pressed the raw edges over with an iron to create sharp creases so it looks like a wide ribbon.

2. Starting at the top of the board – lay the top ribbon across and wrap the ends around the back of the board.  Make sure it is taut. Secure ends on back with tape.

3. Turn board back to front and attach duct tape along the entire length of the bottom edge of the ribbon.  Wrap the ends of duct tape around the back and tape down.  This will turn each ribbon into a pocket. Add the next ribbon under the first- slightly overlapping it.

Secure ends onto the back with tape and add the duct tape along the bottom edge of the ribbon.  The next ribbon will hide the duct tape.   Repeat this process for the rest of the ribbons until you have the board covered.

The back of the board will look like this when all the ribbons and duct tape are attached.  To attach the bottom fabric or ribbon bring about 2 inches of the bottom edge to the back of the board and tape down as if you were gift-wrapping a box.

Secure all the ends of ribbon with duct tape on the back.

Add velcro tabs to the back of the fabric and ribbon covered board

Add a Velcro dot to each corner on the back. Remove the adhesive and then press it onto the door or wall where you want it to hang.

All done.

I place reminders, tickets and other paper notes in this memo board, but you can make the board any size and even frame it. I did just this to use as a Christmas Card Holder.

I’ll be knee deep in Christmas totes, Diane! This is the weekend everything gets put away, and I’m hoping it won’t be as bad as previous years since I do have less this year since we downsized. I do always dread the tree, but I want everything down and in the attic by Sunday the latest! If I should wind up with some down time, I just a got a new decorating book in the mail today that I will look forward to looking through.

  10. That ribbon memo board is an absolutely fantastic idea. And I love that it can hang on the inside of a cupboard door! Thanks for sharing your creation!

  13. Absolutely lovelovelove that chair make-over! It’s gorgeous!

We always keep the Christmas look until the 6th of January, after that we change to Generic Winter look until February. By then temperatures generally return to “warm” again here in Florida and everything remotely winter has to hide in the attic until the end of the year again.

There’s nothing like sitting in an empty living room to cause those idea sparks to start flying! (Sometimes all those fireworks can be overwhelming) I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I am really enjoying your site.
