Have you noticed? Noticed that over the past year there is a baby boom going on. Everywhere I look, I see that someone is pregnant. At Target, blogging events, the supermarket, and down at the shore. I have 6 friends that have had babies in the past year. Almost all of them girls.
I recently met my blogging buddy Shannon of Madigan Made for dinner. She is due with a girl in August. When I know a baby gift is for a girl, I always make this printable gift tag of a ballerina to attach to the gift.
I looked for it in my files, but was frustrated when I couldn’t find it to include with her gift. Last week, I took the time to search high and low for where I stashed it. You would think it would be filed away in my “Printables” or “Giftwrap Ideas” file. Nope, I found it in “Acetate Sheets”. I am the worst filer. I must have been in a rush the last time I made it.
Last week, Ed and I drove to Dayton, Ohio to visit his Goddaughter and her husband and their adorable 8 month old baby girl. XOXO. I made the gift tag to put on our gift to her.
How to Make the Free Printable Gift Tag for Girls
You can make this simply by printing out the .pdf file and cutting the body and leotard with scissors. If you have a Silhouette machine, I have included a separate .pdf file and directions at the end of this post on how to cut the image on the machine.
supplies needed:
- Pink cardstock
- Patterned cardstock for leotard
- 3 ft. of pink tulle ribbon
- Sewing needle
- Pink thread
- Scissors
- Paper hole punch
- Glue stick

1. Print ballerina and leotard on cardstock and cut out inside the lines.
2. Punch two holes on right side of head. This is where you will tie the tag onto the gift bag or box and into a bow.
3. Glue leotard onto the body of the ballerina.
How To Make Tutu for Ballerina
Don’t let the needle and thread scare you. It is really simple and fast to make :-)
4. Thread sewing needle with a 12″ piece of thread and knot end. Sew a running stitch 1/4″ down from the top long-side edge of the ribbon. They do not have to be perfectly spaced stitches. I went in and out of the tulle every half inch.
5. Gather the tulle along the thread to make a gathered tutu.
6. Wrap tutu around ballerina.
7. Pull ends together and tie a knot securely on back. Note: This was my test cut body, I normally cut inside the lines to remove them from the ballerina body.
8. Cut a 12″ long piece of tulle and cut it so that it is 1/2″ wide.
9. Thread cut tulle through holes in ballerina’s head and tie on the handle of the bag as shown. Tie excess into a bow.
10. On an extra piece of cardstock, write name with a marker or use your computer to print the name on cardstock and cut out. I used the font Pottery Barn for Peyton.
Variation
There are many colors of tulle ribbon and cardstock at the craft store. If you add a tree ornament hook, the tags make pretty Christmas tree ornaments or can be made into party favors.

Download this .pdf image of Girl-in-Pink-Gift-tag for Silhouette It has solid lines that a Silhouette needs to read so it can make the cuts. Save it as a jpeg and then upload it your Silhouette software program.
How to Make a JPEG Image into a Silhouette Cutting File:
- Open image in the Silhouette Studio
- Go to “Trace” window – Blue/Yellow box in upper right corner
- Select Trace Area
- Highlight image
- Click Trace Outer Edge
Red cutlines will show up or be behind your image if you move it. This is the file you want to save in your library for future use.
- Open the Cutting Screen
- Load paper into machine, change blade if needed, and click cut.
If you want to print an image and cut around it, follow these steps. After opening the image, click on the “Registration Marks” window first. Upper right hand corner of screen. Choose “Show Registration Marks”. Then move the image off the hatched marks that will appear on the mat on the screen. Then proceed to the Trace window and follow the rest of the directions above.
- If you would like a white space border around your cut image – choose “Offset” and the amount of space you want around the image before going to the cut screen.
